When I first started blogging about the music industry, I think I must have subconsciously fancied myself to be a pundit.
I do actually have a leg to stand on—as both an artist and record company executive.
But, actually...most pundits irritate me.
Endless commentary with no proffered solutions.
I’ve been guilty of that lately.
Yes—the record business is collapsing.
And if you are an aspiring artist praying for a record deal—I still must issue these discouraging words…
Save your prayers.
Get off the mainstream highway cuz it ain’t gonna happen.
But if all the wordsmithing I can muster is merely that of a harbinger of doom…
Then I suck.
And am deserving of some virtual rock throwing at this blog house made of glass.
Thus…
I am on the prowl for some encouraging bits for all those who are still compelled to seek or continue music performance as a career.
Here’s one…
This is a cool idea.
In this brave new world of D.I.Y. promotion, it’s hard to keep up with every online social network and web opportunity out there.
This tool helps save you time so you can focus on the important things…like making music.
In fact, I encourage every aspiring artist to use all these new and emerging web automation tools to your advantage.
The secret is to know when a real human response is required.
So cast your robot bread upon the waters and let a thousand flowers bloom...
But when you get a heartfelt response to your music on MySpace or wherever…take the time to answer personally and say thanks.
Yeah, it can be a real time-consuming affair but…
Fan loyalty is what separates the timeless bands from the flavor of the month.
In the corporate world, they call it customer service.
In it’s simplest form…it’s called gratitude.
